i installed oracle 8i client enterprise edition on windows 98 ,
when i start sql plus from programs menu and give
username : scott ,password : tiger , it does not work ,
on other system with oracle 7.x , windows 98 this username and password works fine to start sql plus , how can I start woriking with sql plus in oracle 8i client enterprise edition.

I don't remmber all the details but you probably need to run Net8 Easy Config and set up your client. That was always an annoyance for me when I have used Oracle in the past.

why don't you try to create a new user grant the necessary privileges to the new user. The last oracle version i did something like this was 7.3 in windows, i suppose that the same way should work for oracle 8i
