Hi All,

I am interested in position with the company who have projects of performance tuning/benchmarking or at positions in UK/US/anywhere.

I am skilled in Loadrunner (Performance, Stress, Scalability Tests), Weblogic server administration, Java/j2ee application development, performance tuning activities & re-engineering. I have worked in benchmarking of application & API testing & tuning of j2ee applications.

My skills are as below

Db Skills Oracle, IBM Informix
Java skills Java, J2ee, SWINGS, JSP/Servlets
Application servers- BEA weblogic 6.1/ 7 /8.1, IBM WebSphere 4.0/5.0
WebServers Tomcat
OS RedHat Linux 7.2, HP-UX 11i, Windows 2000/XP
Other skills Loadrunner 7.8, hpjmeter, hpjtune, XML, XSL

I am having exp of 5 yrs so far. I am working here in Bangalore,India as a team/test lead.
So far I have worked on Loadrunner, Java/J2ee tuning & performance testing/tuning field about 2 years & rest is on Java/J2ee development.
Current role offers me work challenges on all fields such as java/j2ee problem identification & solving, Loadrunner handling, somewhat db side tuning, consulting on Loadrunner/performance issues.

I am looking for a change of company.
But need a company which would offer similar flexibility & wider scope of work in work area.

Just to have a rought idea, if the job would be in US/UK, what would be the salary range on work permit for my above profile wih below skills there?
Do I need to have a certificate to prove my skills for the same?

thanks in advance

regards,
Kapil

I work for a corporate in the UK which employs a very large number of developers. I have never heard of anyone being recruited for their performance or tuning skills, although I acknowledge that I'm not the authority on recruitment. What is typically far more common is to recruit developers at irregular intervals, and then assign them to doing project or support work.

When working on a project, you design and code with performance in mind, but you usually do not make performance the most important thing to be concerned about. It's best, in my view, to concentrate on producing a well-designed system, so changes will be easy to make.

We probabably have few real performance experts, so it tends to be a matter of the project team somehow sorting out any performance issues which arise.

My feeling is that if you are a developer who has a lot of experience of performance tuning, then this would be the best way to market yourself.

I worked on performance tuning of a project but thats not my full time work. Only in the end of project I did performance tuning. I didnt see any person recruited full time for performance tuning.

But I guess some product basec companies will assign a person full time for performance tuninng

Many QA and QA lead postions request this kind of requirements. J2ee QA jobs is probably what you are looking at.

In US salary varies widely state to State . While QA are not the highest payed technical worker their salries are not low. You would expect to make between 75-85K hightest to 52-65 K in lower paying jobs.

You may find it difficult, particularly in the UK, since most employers would be put off by you needing a work permit when its easier just to hire someone closer to home - unless you can offer something really special.
