If I was only going to buy one book, that one book would be Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages by Marty Hall. I've seen other books which maybe handle individual elements covered in Marty's book a bit better or more in depth, but this is a great book to start with, and will get you started with servlets, JSPs, and has a good section on JDBC with Servlets and JSP.
I have not found the need for a book just on JDBC, and this is something I use everyday in work. A book covering as many topics as this weeks giveaway sounds very useful though. I think Marty Hall's book is probably the single best one for servlets with O'Reilly's Java Servlet Programming coming in second. For just JSPs I absolutely love Web Development with JavaServer Pages by Fields and Kolb (but this has some more advanced info which you don't need to worry about until you've digested what's in the Hall book). The one book I have that covers some JDBC and have found myself reaching for a number of times is Oracle8 ProgrammingL A Primer by Sunderraman. It covers a smattering of SQL, PL/SQL, Relational Algebra, JDBC, and DB programming in C/C++. It's a small book but so incredibly useful and suitable for a beginner.

Jason,
THanks a lot for the information. You have given me pretty good number of options to choose from. I will browse through the books and decide which one to buy.
Thanks again.

Besides the mentioned books, I would like also to suggest "Java Server Programming, J2EE edition"
