Onsite chances are more in IBM. IBM is more open culture like net, yahoo, msn. But in EDS not sure if you can get internet connectivity on your PC, this is something very unusal as per IT work Environment.

Am I right ?

True you need internet connection. It is fine if you cant acess yahoo, hotmail mails but you need internet connection to learn new things, to upgrade your skills. I know most of companies restrict private mails, and some websites but they do allow internet browsing.

But, am I wrong if I don't want to join a company if they don't give internet access on your desktop, being a IT professional we need this to upgrade our skill, though we can access internet in house or cyber , but we are spending 10 hrs in office.
I am ok with yahoo, msn , private mails or some more restricted sites, but i want to browse at least technology stuff.

I don't know what kind of policy this is ?...other are good in EDS, infact even after getting the offer these thing scared me, though they have library to access internet, but if i stuck up with some problem do I suppose to run towards library and found that all PC are occupied..

Please advice.
should consider IBM or EDS...i am also in dilemma !!

When you want some thing you need to give up something All companies may not be same, they may not able to provide all facilities. For every problem there will be solution. Remember one thing that EDS is one of the biggest company in the world.

I wholehertedly agree with this. For me company culture is pathetic if they do not allow access to internet on my desktop, they can block whatever sites they want -- but not alowing internet access is a design flaw according to me. AFAIK, iFlex pune also has few PCs for intenet access, otherwise no desktop acccess to boost productivity -- sick!!!

Hi,
I too would say that culture is one importand thing to consider when you are moving to another company.
As far as IBM is considered, culture is excellent. very friendly and no restrictions in internet usage.
About EDS, i dont have much idea. I guess they are better in giving onsite opportunity.

Hi All,
I dont know about India, but in the USA, EDS is a dying company.
A quick look at some stats at http://finance.yahoo.com/q/co?s=SAPE would reveal that to you.
Its in the process of selling a lot of its property to save costs as well as AT Kearney.
IBM on the other hand is much more stable.
I'm speaking strictly about USA and maybe things are radically different for EDS in India.
Hope that helps you in making up a decision.
All the best.

Hey thanks a lot !!!

Your link is kind of eye opener buddy !! this is worth to be consider, see what ever happening in US , that is going to impact out sourcing for sure.
And the "feel good factor" of indian IT industr,y will not last for ever for sure.

Well I am really confused, i have a offer from EDS, but yet not finalised anything !!

Yeah I heard that EDS is selling off its consultancy arm A.T. Kearney which they purchased 10 yrs back. A.T.Kearney is under losses but I didnt know/heard that EDS is under losses.

Now you do
When I was in the process of choosing which company to join (in USA), I referred to those statistics a lot to determine the stability of the company.
Theres also this website called vault.com, I remember having taken membership of that. Its basically a message board wherein the company employees post messages about the company, various job profiles, the starting pay they got, what interview questions they faced and so on. Was very helpful to me.
But again, most of them were USA positions (some were Indian positions too).
Hope that helps !
Amit
