I am getting ORA-01041 internal error HOSTDEF extension does not
exit.
Cause: The pointer to the HOSTDEF is null.
when I first started Oracle 8.0 it ask me for the username,
password and hostname. I know that there are some comman
username, password and hostname. I uses system, manager and no
host name (because I don't know what to enter in that)...
This what it gives me for all the query(create, select,etc...)
please help me to find the solution for this bug.(bug? i don't
thing so)
Thanks
Amit

This is what the Oracle docs say:
"ORA-01041 internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
Cause: Pointer to HSTDEF extension in HSTDEF is null.
Action: Contact Oracle Customer Support."
don't see that action very often! Anyways, seems like it is out of your control??

I know what it says in the error I have this same question on the Oracle site's forum.
The site Oracle.com is just a bunch of useless information. I checked the whole site for this error but I can't find the answer.
Sorry to say but " your reply doesn't make any differance either"
Anyway, thanks for the reply

The solution description originally given(Action: Contact Oracle Customer Support) sounded like you needed to call Oracle and speak directly with the tech staff at oracle. I have never seen them give a solution that says call tech support, usually they give a solution to the problem. That is why I think that it is more serious than just changing the configurations/settings.
