Presently JR is delivering HTML contents with white spaces and also it is not compressed.

If administrator able to zip the HTML content and able to remove the white spaces from the response, there can be a huge save of bandwidth.

Looking at this page right here, there is actually very little whitespace, compared to an average JSP page. There are some empty lines, and the JavaScript code has leading spaces, but that's maybe 100 bytes per page. Where do you see the huge savings coming from - compression alone?

This page was 23,123 bytes before simple compression and 22,680 after. A saving of 443 bytes
Enabling gzip compression would make a significantly larger difference.

in bandwidth, but what would it do for serverload?
gzip compression of the http stream would mean more cpu cycles per request, and the server is busy enough as it is quite often.

Good point. There are also web server plug ins to strip white space, but again it is cpu cycles. I can probably strip another 5 or 10 bytes if required?

Damn straight you can. What's with the funny character in your last name? And anyway, short first names are all the rage now - look at mine!

Bah. My short first AND last name has saved countless bytes!

But you make up for it with your signature...

My name is an evil waste of bandwidth -- along with most of what I say.

Well, yeah - but I never said that I was even trying to save bandwith. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted at all...
