hi

i wanted to ask all of you the big question that i and many many more people like are unanswered with.

if one doesnt have any experience as a programmer but has to migrate from a non-developers field to the development, then what should one do?

as every company, small or big, today asks for an experience if one has to go in development, where from people like us will bring the experience.

can anyone guide on the same?

what should be one's approach? how to go about it?

A number of avenues you might explore:

- take classes that teach you software engineering and programming
- take some of the Java examinations that Sun administers
- become involved in open source projects

The first two these two won't give you commercial experience, but you can put them on your resume to show that you know what you're talking about.
Of course, you should also be asking yourself: why do you *HAVE* to migrate from a non-development position to a development position? If you actually want to, any of the above should lead you in a direction you want to go anyway. If you don't want to, maybe it's time to start looking for something else.

Hi Ms. Eye,

Welcome to JavaRanch!

In your haste to come in and ask a question, you seem to have missed reading our policy on display names, which quite clearly states that you must use a real (sounding) first and last name for your display name -- no joke names, "handles," or last initials are acceptable. You can fix your display name here. Thanks for your cooperation!

Also, we have many forums here, including one entitled "Job Discussion", where this post would be on-topic. I'll move it there.
