I have one years exsperience with java. All the jobs in Canada seem
to require 4 years experience. Is this for real ? Or is there something I dont see. There is absolutly NO entery level (fresher) for development firms. I work for a med lab that is just not big enough to use EJB, non of the big firms will not hire me without being an "expert" in it.

I am considering geting out of this industry. What do you think ?

Minimum of 4 years Java development experience
College/University education and 4 years plus overall development experience
Experience in Java and J2EE programming and analysis at the specified level of proficiency
Experience in structured methodologies for the development, design, implementation and maintenance of applications
EJB expert
Experience with client/server, frontend and interface development
Experience with high volume/high availability systems
Experience with package system implementations
Experience in one or more programming languages
Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills

I'm not sure why not using EJB is considering a bad thing. I've never run into a place where there was a sound and coherent reason for using them. The last place I saw that used them (a Canadian company, ironically) did so only because they could access DB2 without an extra license using EJBs, but not through standard JDBC. Everywhere else, the folks just roll their eyes when I make sure that they're not using them.

One other consideration for you might be a small firm. I never worked for a large company when I was in Canada, and I'm very, very glad. A smaller place can give you exposure to a lot of areas that a larger employer might not, until you get to a stage where you've been doing things for 2 or 3 years.

Besides, large Canadian companies are too conservative to ever do something different or risky.

Less competition for me. What do you plan to do?

Cheers!

Why dont you try Cognos ? If you've not heard of it before, it makes BI Software.

I thought they hired a lot of people from Canada..and had huge development office in Ottawa? THey have a university recruitment program too.
Check out their website. www.cognos.com

If you have some other alternatives the sooner the better.
