If I'm using mysql for my database, can i use JDBC as the connector?Or is there other connector?

You can use the JDBC Driver search page to find the JDBC drivers for a database.
(I'd post a link to the results for you, but the page doesn't let you )
It lists 4 Type-4 JDBC Dyivers for MySQL. One of them supports JDBC2 and one even supports JDBC3! I'm a little wary that it fully supports it, but you'd have to read the docs to make sure. Don't assume everything you want is immediately there.

You can download mysql driver at MYSQL
If you are using tomcat, put the jar file inside this zip file in tomcat 4.1\common\lib en reboot your tomcat server
now you are able to use MYSQL JDBC
