How to weblogic or websphere appserver experience

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi All,

I have got 5+ years of experience in java,j2ee,jrun and jboss
But everybody is asking java with weblogic or websphere how to get experience in those app servers. Do they have online tutorial or what type of questions do they ask in the interview?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Srilakshmi

If you know any j2ee server properly then learning others is very easy as all the servers are based on sun specifications.Only UI is different.
If you have any specific query then you can ask.

Simply download trial versions, package your applications in EAR, learn the specific stuff (specific XML description files) to deploy them on other application servers, and make your own trials.
I suggest you begin with WebLogic, much simpler to use than WebSphere (has autodeploy too like JBoss).

Best regards.

that's also a problem that frustrated me. As we know, different people use different app. servers, like web logic, web spheere, silver stream, OAS9i, jrun, iPlanet, etc. If I have experience with one of them but the job ad. clearly says they prefer experience with another one that you haven't used before. Do I have chance to get the job ? Of course, I can download a trial version and play with it briefly, but will employer take that seriously ? I doubt. So, my "strategy" is I just get very familiar with the app. server I am using in the work. For the others, since I can't learn all of them, just forget about it. If you try a trial version of WL, shouldn't you try the others ? Plus, trying some trial version by yourself isn't professional experience. So I will just tell people I have done J2ee and used this server, for the rest I know they are close in principle with some detailded difference, so with the experience I have had, I should be able to get familiar with the new one very soo.

Is this a good approach ?

SCM teams and administrators handle alot of the deployments and bindings (at least in larger companies where resources may be more plentiful) so I don't really see it as a major issue. Sometimes it's just a recruiter reading a spec sheet that doesn't know the difference.

IBM has a 60 day trial of WSAD. I think that is plenty of time to become an expert if you wanted ;-)

I think he is saying the correct thing, just work hard to grasp concepts about web sphere and weblogic also it should not be difficult for you as you have already experience on jrun, jboss ,more or less or web/app server are similer and concepts are same........

All the Best

Thanks guys for all your answers then how should i present the skills in my resume which i learned myself but dont have any work experience,

I am afraid in job requirement, then specifically mention that they need to work experience in abc and def, etc.,

Preparing is not a problem at all but after preparing how to present to the market to grab jobs.

After you get certified in Websphere, you add a new paragraph to the top of your resume. You build some fairly significant project with the server. Then say what you did in your resume and be prepared to talk about it. Tell them you did it at your current employer.

Age is important here too. You need to be 30 or less to be good at this plan.
