I am fresher, recently cleared SCJA (Sun Certified Java Associate). I live in Mumbai, India. Giving SCJP1.4 in about 10 days time.
I wanted to know how is Job Market for people like me.
Also in my last yr of engineering I got sick so did not appear for exam and cleared exam this yr. will it be problem. My acads are good 71% in final yr. (Do I have chance in all companies or only in small ones).
One more point I know .net also but will take two weeks time to refresh what to do go with Java only or both. Bye.

Freshers stand a better chance in the campus selection processes. Trying on your own in big companies might require a painful struggle with walk-ins where thousands of people stand in queues for hours together!!! However, if you are open to joining start ups or small/mid-size companies (which mostly offer better work than bigger companies!), it shouldn't be much of a fight.
Again, the gap in education wont be a problem for smaller companies but bigger companies might not accept it( which might change after you gain some work experience)
Gap in education or career may not be acceptable by many of big companies. Try to join some small or start up companies and gain experience. Once you got 2 years of experience then you can go for big companies. Rite now the market for freshers is good. For freshers its easier to get job in campus, once you are outside of cmapus its some what painful to get job and you need undergo lot of processes and wait for long hours.
So for your profile its better to start your job with a small company or start up companies.
Will my certificates scja, scjp will help me in case of big companies
It can never hurt you. However, its worse if you show that you're SCJP and can't answer a question like abstract class vs interfaces. You get the point! Just showing certification is not enough, you actually have to prepare and give valid answers. Only then, certs have a meaning.
shall I try and find good reputed company and not to start work for small one (Will my certificates scja, scjp will help me in case of big companies).
or no harm in small companies.
You wont be treated as fresher as you complete your degree last year. You should be flexible to take any job with small, mid or big company. So try for all jobs and take up which ever you feel better offer if you get more than one.
KJ one more question I saw your post in other thread regd Resume, since you were recruiter once (if not sorry), I have SCJA, SCJP (not yet completed) and have heard it is important how you cook up your resume. This term I learned from javaranch only. I mean deals with presentation, so how shall I put it in my resume. shall I include in brief about objectives any suggesstion about resume, or link.
also say after I finish scjp in a weeks time what to do, learn .net for a week, or do j2ee interview question, or scwcd pls advice.
sorry for the trouble. [ September 10, 2005: Message edited by: Santana Iyer ]
Santana, now you are fresher. So try in small companies. Try for J2EE interviews and in the same time if you have chance learn .net also. For your certificates are positive points. So when a recruiter sees your resume he should catch your positive points. So put your certificate information in your techninical summary or some other section in bold letters. Bold letters are easily attracted by recruiter eyes.
This forum idea is to share the ideas and exchange the information. Same time helping and getting help from others. So dont feel sorry for that. Pose your questions what ever you want and if any one able to help you they will help you.
