Suggestion needed

Hi

I am working in mid sized MNC(services side) where I am getting a salary of 2.55 lakhs for 2 years of J2EE experince.

I worked on WSAD for 1 year and weblogic portal for 1 year, fully into development.

Now I got an offer from a big compnay for weblogic adminsitration/performnace tuning/production support , they are offering 4.25 lakhs for my skillset.

I am planning to take but my concerns are
1) I may have to work on shift basis
2) How Does Changing from Development to Production support impact my development career. Can I come back to Devleopment to support?

Is it a right offer to take and change the field?

Dont shift to production support . You can also get better offer from other companies .

I suggest not to move weblogic administration. It makes your experience makes narrower to weblogic. so stay in Java related development and try to get job in that area. there are lot of jobs in market for your experience.

I second what he sad, development experience is far more valuable and your skillset looks impressive. If you're not happy with your salary, try to look for other opportunities in devlopment itself -- 2 to 4 years experience is always a sweet patch in career, and given excellent Indian software market, getting around 4 LPA should not be difficult for you.

I also second KJ Reddy. I too shifted from development to support 6 months back for better salary and better company name. Looking back I think I was little haste in my decision. I could have waited little more and join a firm which assigns me to development project. I am now fed up with maintaining an application which was written 4 yrs back and now we have neither original developer nor any documentation. Top of it is badly written application in house developed by client. I have asked PM to change my project but he said no chance before 1 yr. Result is I am again looking for change.

I feel moving to prod support is not a bad option. It's where you get know the domain more. If you see MNC's they have mostly Prod support projects.
