"zapf chancery",

We're pleased to have you here with us on the Ranch, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!

I think the gotchas are on the Applet site rather than on the JDBC side, so you may be better off posting in the Applets forum. Here are a few things to bear in mind that I've picked up from using this forum (I've never used Applets myself, however):
  • You'll need to use a type 3 (pure Java, net protocol) JDBC driver
  • You can only connect to a DB via the same location that served the applet
  • I've seen first-timers struggling with JNDI and javax.sql.DataSource; something to do with configuration parameters

  • It is possible. Hope you find this useful.

    Jules

    Please continue any discussion here.

Julian, please don't encourage people to cross-post in other forums. Rather, ask a bartender to move the post. Makes less work for us. Thanks!
