Does an experiance in developing in open source projects count towards industry experiance, particularly for a fresher in India. I have seen many of my friends / juniors ( freshers ) struggling to get a job even though they are university rank holders & toppers.

In other way is there any Indian company , that recognizes the experiance in open sources projects.

Considerable involvement in an opensource project (such as those in Jakarta and Sourceforge) gives you:

a. exposure to the rigours of a geography-agnostically managed coordination effort,

b. fairly open-minded and knowledge-friendly approach,

c. confidence in one's own ability

d. enormous learning in terms of practical capability as against the mostly impractical theoretical grounding university/college education gives.

If a candidate, even as a fresher, is able to demonstrate these traits, most companies would be more than glad to hire himher. And these must be incentives enough for people, especially freshers, to get deeply involved in such opensource projects.

All the best.

It depends how deep one gets. For all freshers it would be a plus.

It's a good way to get experience and well worth the time invested.
