Hi,

I have worked in USA for 2 years and recently I got a new project for 2 months contract. I like this project because of the location. I am no longer the long distance couple.

It has been a month to start this project and I hasn't been assigned any real work. It is so strange for me. I was always assigned work usually within a week once I start a new project.

At first, I think it maybe because this team is maintainance team in a large corp. I have never been in maintainace team. But a month? Why did they hire me after all?

Certainly, I can find another job if they don't want me to do their job.
But it is somewhat insulting that they didn't give me a work and don't want to extend my contract.

Shall I talk with my manager with this situation and push him?
Or just sit here and studying...

Any advice?

It is just bad management, I would think. They probably plotted a project, got the go ahead from someone higher, started hiring, then realized that the project was not likely to go anywhere. On a cost analysis, it is probably cheaper to pay you 2 months for doing nothing than going through the settlement to fire you. You should be happy to be in your situation, 2 months paid to learn from and contribute to javaranch , dont you think?

Very recently I was in the same boat...... it took 3 weeks for me to get a PC and do all s/w installations before i actually start work. Be patient and follow what Homer Phillips said.

Thanks all,

Rajan, getting pc, install necessary s/w and server account took around 2 weeks in my case.

Actually I talked with my manager in my 3rd week about my contract.
I just want to let him know if my contract is not extended, give me 2~3weeks early notice so that I can prepare.

You know what?
He doesn't even know my contract is 2 months. He thought it is 6 months.
Strangly, he wanted to extend my contract. Still no work since then..

Ye, I keep studying and in the mean time get paid..
See the bright side and I am going to take SCWCD within next week.
