Hello I have a JSP page retrieving/Processing a report from a database. The info being retrieved is quite large... The problem is I get this error that my request has timed out before the page can be retrieved.

I ran the SQL statement in my MSSQL query analyzer
and it took 11 minutes 17 seconds to return the report. You may ask why would anyone want to toture the end-user with such a long-report? Unfortunately, I donot have a choice... I didnt write the original code.

How can I fix this problem? How can I prevent my request from timing out?

Ola,
You can't prevent the browser from timing out, so you have to look at ways to make the query shorter. This includes optimizing the query or returning less data. Consider paging so the user doesn't need all the data on the first shot.

Or, run the query in the background and don't make the page wait for the result. This has been discussed recently in the JSP forum.

I would have explored shortening the query, but its not an option open to me. Ill look into paging... could you give me directions on that.

Bear could yu provide me with a link to where the discussion of running the query in the background could be found. Thanks.

Ola,
I think this was the thread Bear referred to. For paging, do a search of this forum and the JSP forum. (The search link is all the way on the top of the page.)
