Since I am from IIIT-B..I can give you some details about that..
The M.tech programme is of 2 years durations..There are 4 semesters and in the last semester you can either opt for research or internship..The selction procedure is through All India written test followed by a technical interview..Your Gate score will also be taken into consideration..If you have a high Gate score you have an advantage..
Talking about research this is the first institution to get planetlab machines in India(PlanetLab is a Model for Evolving the Next-Generation Internet
PlanetLab is a network of computers strategically located at sites around the world, forming a testbed or platform for creating and deploying planetary-scale services - massive applications that span a significant part of the globe)...
Apart from that there are several research and consultancy projects currently goin on...The infrastructure is good--laptops for each students and the hostel and college are fully wireless enabled .

Coming to placements check out this report about the placements last year http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/dec092004/s3.asp
Several top companies come to college..This year the companies which came to college are google, yahoo, microsoft,Hp research labs,Cisco,Intel,Fiberlink,Sap Labs,i2,C-cor networks,Sap labs,GE,EMC,Seimens Corporate Research Technology..Highest package was 12 lakh/annum,Median pay is 4.2 lakh/annum..Lowest:3.75 lakh/annum..

if you have further questions do write your queries..

But I heard that studying in IIITb is expensive, a normal middle class man cannot afford it.
Is it true ?

Fees per semester is 50k....but you have good number of scholarships + You have teaching assistantship in 3rd sem ..+ you will also be getting a stipend around 15k in your 4th sem..
Lots of banks also offer loans without security.

Even though you get good campus interview 50 K is quite expensive for a student while at college days.
Thanks for the inputs

Hi Venkat,

I am a PCO(Person of Chinese Orgin)..Thats why the Chinese name

The onus of deciding what companies are to be called lies with the students..They rank the companies in the order of attractiveness..Usually students prefer to work in a Product companies over Service companies(I personally dont think that is a good decision)..Based on majority preferences the companies are called..

They rank the companies in the order of attractiveness

attractivenss means what..good HRs.. then I think service companies have better HRs..

Venkat,

Why do you think like an accused..?
Attractiveness doesn't mean physical attractiveness..ok..
attractiveness in terms of Work, work culture.pay etc....

Well, almost all companies like IBM,Intel,EMC,i2,Bosch and a hell lot of Indian companies come. However, Microsoft,SAP,SUN dont come. salaries may be not as high as IIITb, but are however very decent. Lowest could be companies like Satyam and Wipro, which pay around 2.75lacs p/a for Btech and around 3.1 for Mtech. Highest could hover somewhere around 4.75 lacs with EMC or i2. However, Manipal is next best to IIIT and the IITs and one will surely have >1 offer in hand considering the number of companies that come to the campus.Second Yr Mtech is only prooject work for the entire year, and most of the students get absorbed by those companies themselves where they are carrying out the project.Even if they are not, job is guaranteed in campus!!! Also, Hostel life is the greatest enjoyment of Manipal!!

Cherio,
Shankar

Hi Ravi Shekhar,

Let me first introduce myself. I'm working with a top MNC at Mumbai and want to pursue my higher studies and want to enter into R&D kind of work. I have cleared the aptitude test of IIIT-B and have been shortlisted for the interview process. Shekhar if you can provide me any further information regarding the interview process I would be thankful to you.

"sfds hgh",

Welcome to JavaRanch. Please look carefully at the official naming policy at JavaRanch & reregister yourself with a proper first & last name, with a space between them. Initials may be used for a first name, but not a last name. Please adhere to official naming policy & help maintain the decorum of the forum. The naming policy can be found at http://www.javaranch.com/name.jsp. You can change your name here.

Also you should note that this thread is 2 years old, it's usually not good to bring up such an old thread... especially when it's unrelated to your current question. In particular, you should not hijack thread; this thread is about the quality of colleges, your question is about activities t a specific college.
