Oracle JDBC and Timestamp

Has anybody experienced performance issues using timestamp in Oracle9i ?
Using setTimestamp in a PreparedStatement is darn slow, whereas using setDate is ok. I've already found a couple of things about this on Google, but nothing very convincing. If anybody has some light to put on that problem...
