Hi,
I am karthi. I have graduated at 2003(B.E. CSE). First I got into a small company. Now I thought of going into MNC I applied to Accenture and got selected but here comes the problem the HR told me that my three yrs term at my small company can be treated as 2 yrs term in Accenture and I will be given salary and position treating me as 2 yrs exp candidate. When I started demanding the HR told me since the market is in BOOM they are left with no option of recruiting ppl from PANWALA companys else guys like you wont find place here. Now I need advice from guys like you in reg with how to proceed.Basically I am from poor family so I need a job but I feel that shud I be joining the company even after getting illtreated like this or shud I reject the offer.Pls advice me.
Note: I am not blaming the company as whole I know few persons personal mentality nothing to do with the company so if any of you from the company kindly accept my sincere apology if you feel I hurt you in anyways.

Thanks
Karthi.

Karthi, in my opinion you should not join Accenture if they don't agree on your demands, even if you join after agreeing to their conditions do you think you can work for long period there, if you can then go on.

They have got one of the worst working environment and worst management policies, I remember when I gave my interview in Accenture, after conducting interview process for about 8 hours they cancelled the whole process and about 500 candidates spend their whole day without any result.

Most important thing is your talent dont bother what they say, there are many other organizations which provide better working environment and respect the talents and I am sure you can find any such oragnisation the idea is to get away from that typical horde mentality.

Well said Sameer. These all HR's tactics to cut-down the offer's worth.

I agree with Sameer. Look for another job. When you got job offer with Accenture it is not much difficult to get job with other MNCs. Before joining itself if they treated you like this what is the guarantee they treat good after joining. If you join with them they may treat you like this in many situations like at appraisals.

I do agree with KJ, you can get job easily elsewhere and if every thing goes well, you can get the offer which you are demanding.

Its not a difficult thing, do try in other companies..

Yes Karthi you should not accept this offer.

I thing it does not really matter if you come from small company.

What matters is clearing the technical rounds of interview & then after that brand name hardly matters.

Hi Karthi :

I would suggest join them ,opportunities should not be missed ,though it is good time you can not decide to leave
due to just one person comments and this kind of things happen(when you are looking for entry level position).
It is only matter of time,Once you put accenture brand on your resume you can negotiate well ,small is always small
Powerful always is right ,this is the cruel world you can not miss opportunity just due to some idiot's comments.
Think about the things in long term and don't be emotional.
All the Best

Hi karthi:

I agree with Ram, take it and prove your mettle. It is just a matter of time. Moroever incidents like these makes you more confident. If they are thinking you are from "Panwala", let them be.

Use there Brand name and keep moving ahead. Not all people will be like the HR person so chill, also you dont have to work with the HR person, so dont let this oppurtunity pass by, unless you have somehting else in hand.

and remember years back when a tall guy applied for an announcer in a local radio station, he was rebuked by saying "go n sell apples, ur voice is not good at all", that guy was Amitabh Bachchan.

Yes Ram, I do agree with you that based on one person we can not judge entire organisation. But many people complained about Accenture's HR behaviour. So that is why I warned Karthi.

Karthi, do remember one thing. If a company recruiting you means they need your skills and you need better career. So a job with any organisation involves mutual benefit to employee and employer. If a company paying Rs 3L PA means, they company will target to make more then Rs 3L PA from your talent.

Hi Karthi,

I would suggest you to dont look at brand name. look at the work you are going to get there and compensation(salary). if work satisfaction is less, salary should be more or vice-versa. Getting into any MNC is not big deal, specially in IT domain. Be confident and belive on your capabilities. I also believe in "Never miss Opportunity" provided that should be an opportunity. what if you get offer from one more company. you would have to choose one only, you cant select or choose both . So first you decide what you want, if you want brand name then just join it.

Good Luck,

cheers,
Rish

I agree with Rish Jain. Well pointed out. Look for technology they are using like Hibernate, Spring, Tapestry, JSF, EJB 3.0 etc and type of work etc. You should always try to be on the fore-front of the technology. Also, do not budge for the HR tactics. You can always negotiate. If you compare 10 devlopers with 3 years of experience, they all are not going to have same level of skills. Some of them will be smarter and more pro-active than others. They are making you an offer based not only in your number of years of experience but also based on how you performed at your interview/skills etc.

Hi Karthi,

I just spoke to one of my friend who has recently got selected in Accenture. He is saying it might be a STRESS TESTING INTERVIEW. They usually do like this.

Good Luck,

cheers,

well ,A lot of things are matter of time ,take the case of 2000-01 when there were no jobs and it was very difficult to get job with
small company and things were horrible.
You are fortunate that you are getting chance with accenture ,small company experiences is never counted ,how ever good or bad you are .....
You would be considered fresher only in accenture ,take this chance to prove your mettle ,work for 1-2 years (accenture gives very good hikes(till 40-50% in six months ),so don't worry about salary ),After that wherever you go nobody would dare to say that you worked with a "PAANWALA" company.
forget about technology ,It is very difficult in big consultancy to get projects on good technology ,all the things you are going to learn about processes and big-2 keywords.(which you can never learn in small companies ,however good they are ) I think this play importent role when you are moving up the ladder.
So learn about the things which can give you statbility and your bread and butter in long term,If you are not very techy kind of person .Last but not least now the future is in maintainance and support only so people who has that kind of experience and flexiblity to work would only survive ,leave the hard core development for those who wants to take pain .
Apart from support ,maintaince work keep work -life balance too because you need not give a lot of time.So Be Happy and Enjoy.
Life is too short to think about petty things . Cheers

Ram

Looks like all good guys have left Accenture India. Attrition rate in Accenture must be very high. I suggest joing some other organization where you treated with respect. You dont deserve this.

Hi Karthi,

I am very much surprised to know that u got this kind of a treatment here in Accenture.

I have been with Accenture for last 1.5 years and quite satisfied with this company. I have read many bad things about this company on JavaRanch. But my personal experience is something different.

In my opinion, just ignore that HR person (YOU MAY NEVER MEET HIM/HER AGAIN AFTER JOINING HERE) and take this opportunity and use it to prove urslef.

ALL THE BEST.

Regards,

Grishma

Hi Karthi
I think u r comfortable with ur current job work (Not Salary). So u should take a little bit time and try some other company. The work environment of Accenture is not good and HR polices also not good. If u wants to work in these conditions then join the company otherwise u can get better job then this. This time u needs a brand name but u can get better brand name then this and also a handsome salary.

So Forget about Accenture Interview
try try try one day u will succeed..

Best of luck

This is quite normal. Most large organizations will behave in same way. It must not be seen as humilation. Close your eyes, join Accenture. You can always leave them when you get a better offer. Be practical rather than emotional.

Karthi,

Make the most out of every little opportunity that comes your way.

If Accenture is paying you even the same amount as you are earning in the smaller company, so be it. Use this as a stepping stone.

Don't lose what you have in hand, hopeing for something bigger.. Instead, grab what you are offered, then try to jump for the bigger prize.

And remember, when you go to the office in the morning, leave your sentiments at home.

Your career spans 40 years. You are right at the begining. What have you to lose ?

Hi Karthi,
I agree with KJ, Rambo and all other people - personally, I don't think it's a good idea to join a company that doesn't respect your skills and experience..
Secondly, let's consider that we keep the emotions apart - supposing you join them, and the same scenario continues (which is more likely - based on many opinions already expressed in this forum - they have one of the worst work cultures, lots of politics etc.), just think if you'll be able to cope up with this kind of culture. If you have no problems with the people around you, if you can shut yourself from them and just continue to carry on/ concentrate on your work only - then go ahead. Accenture as a brand will definitely help you... (My personal experience about their interview too hasn't been that good - it's one of the worst I have had till date)...
And just another perspective to Zilbu's comment -

and remember years back when a tall guy applied for an announcer in a local radio station, he was rebuked by saying "go n sell apples, ur voice is not good at all", that guy was Amitabh Bachchan.

The guy was rejected at the interview for the radio station and did't join the radio station! Had he got through to the radio station, the world today would have missed a legend called Amitabh Bachchan, to some unknown radio announcer
So, just decide what exactly you want and then finalise about the offer cooly.. All the best
