So in the office we're debating over what is named what and what each mean. What is the difference between an left outer join and a left join? Many documents show that left outer is the same as a left. What are your thoughts?

Dale,
It's the same thing. An inner join, also known as a join, doesn't include nulls. By definition, it is an outer join if you specify a direction.
