What does the method con.getMetaData(); actually returns where con is a connection Object.

It returns an implementation of the interface java.sql.DatabaseMetaData

Are you asking what implements that interface?

But it also returns ResultSetMetaData??? How come??

No it doesn't. What makes you think this? Are you confusing this method with ResultSet's getMetaData() method?
