Hibernate,Postgres and DAOs.. help needed please..

I've been programming with Java for only a year (doing a Computer Science course in university), so I am unexperienced.. But my cousin who owns a programming firm wants to give me the opportunity to do some work experience with him in the coming months, but first I have *a lot* to learn! In the past few weeks I've been learning about web applications such as servlets, JSPs and creating these using Maven and Tomcat.
I now have the task of learning to use Hibernate along with the PostgreSQL database, and as a challenge my cousin asked me to try and learn as much as possible in a week, and if I can manage it, to reconfigure a simple Login web application I've already done, using Hibernate DAOs instead of the simple userDAO I currently have..
and a HashMapUserDAO:
I'm finding it very hard to find simple enough information enough to take in in such a short period of time..
Does anyone know how i could implement this? Do i need a session factory? if so whereabouts should I put it and how is it used?
