what is the scope of java in elctronics and communication industry eg is java used in software design for elec. and comm. firms or role of j2me or role of java in cad .
just want to know which is the best job or industry where the best of both java and communications or electronics meet.

Many products in telecom domain using Java.

well , i can place telecom domain as a part of communication domain and i would love to know about the role of java in this domain also .

hi guys ,

i read the response to biswajit goswami's message around dec 2005 and i got to know a few things - i am from electronics and communication background and about to graduate in may 2006.

i am about to join accenture.

i cleared scjp 1.4 a month back and my seniors there have replied that i may get j2ee division . i plan to spend a year or two there and then look out for some thing more close to my btech qualification.i have worked in telecom in the past - i have worked on an ip/atm/bluetooth interface and also worked on all-ip systems . i think i can do well in the telecom domain but what is my primary concern is not to miss the experience tag.

i would love to come into telecom domain.

please tell me if i am following the right track or not .

also during the next year should i try for some other certifications that can help me in the telecom domain??

As one who has worked with one of the biggest telecom industry in the U.S. as an I.T. professional. I want you to understand that telecomunication and the internet are merging into one; While the people in telecommunications are aware of this development; those in IT have very little or no awareness of this new trend. The whole idea is to eliminate the huge switch/exchange centers and replace them with computers (maybe laptops); and this is precisely what voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP for short is out to achieve at a very great savings to telecom companies in terms of job cut from these switch operators; also the telecommunication companies right now are moving a step forward to channel not just data and voice on internet but also video is streaming on the internet as well and they need people knowledgeable in IT mainly for these as well as a host of other initiatives. For you who realised this new trend, I think you are doing the right thing by taking appropriate steps to ensure that you are rounded in both fields.

thanks for the information - i was aware of the idea of merging but was not aware of the idea of ip telephony and its use .but i think it would be wonderful to work on it but where does java fits onto this- i know of some sun protocol about ip telephony but dont know much .

Java plays a major role in anything Internet; that does not mean that other languages are not capable of achieving the same thing but most companies adopt Java as a language of choice. the emphasis where I worked was Java though virtually every other language was also in use; even Cobol; Big companies are very slow to change. In our case, there was a bunch of IT workers who had been with the company for years but they were not Java programmers and the company was encouraging retraining and stuffs like that. I worked on a VoIP project using Java; though like I said any other language could have been used. It sometimes depends on the resources available to get the job done.
