Hi
How would we interface with an existing working cobol system
with application server using EJB.The need would be obviously
to make the system more scalable. But what exactly we have to
do in ejb's in this case, as most of the business logic is already in the legacy system.i mean do we just need to have some
session beans to interract. i think iam missing a crucial point here. can somebody help me with this.
thanks in advance

Hi raju,
I had some similar kind of experience for a financial company where some new functionality jelled well with EJB spec but for a particular section we had to rely on the cobol backend which did pretty much of the business.
In that scenario we wrote a gateway wrapper(sits on app server) to communicate to the gateway server(sitting on the cobol box) through tcp/ip socket prg. We evolved a class based information exchange protocol for data transmission.
Essentially all the calls were made from stateful/stateless session beans to the wrapper(synchronous calls) which used to execute the calls on the gateway server and pass the results back to the bean.
There might be some problems in designing this and the best fit would be to look into what kind of transaction demarcation your processes will demand and also relies on type of concurrency u demand.
Hope this gets ur thinking cap going...if not write to me for details.
regards,
Mreddy
