My teammate and I are debating whether the following scenario is both legal and appropriate.
From our J2EE container, send a message to a component, a regular Java application, that resides outside the container. Upon receipt of the message, the component spawns a thread that is appropriate to do the work in question. As another message arrives, the component does the same thing. Then, it returns to a waiting state.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, as it will complement the research we are beginning to do on this matter.
Thanks,
Craig

Hi,
I cannot see any reasons why this scenario would be illegal.

The message-driven bean is part of the J2EE 1.3 release, which is not yet production quality. Why recommend something that is not yet production quality, and how long before application servers implement this release in a certified product?
Thanks for the response,
Craig

BEAs WebLogic server is a certified product and already implements the message-driven bean.
