You need to find a compiler for Java on your "special flavor" Unix. I only know one: GCJ
It is the Java version for the well known and supported GCC.
The problem is that it just works for AWT applications (in beta, I guess)
On windows (JDK or with JBuilder) there is a tool called javaw.exe that make possible to execute class files without the dos console. I don't find this utility on Unix distribution of JDK. Anyone knows more details about javaw.exe , it is not documented in JDK docs.

You might consider looking at native compilers. For more information: http://www.jshoppe.com/nativecodecompilers.shtm
