Hi guys,

Currently I am employed with one of India's big 5 IT company and in US on H1 B working for a major financial organisation. Recently , I was approached by a Job Consultant from different state offering me a Contractor position in another firm over there . He has promised to transfer my H1 from my current employer to his firm.

Here is what I need your advice on ..
1) Currently I am getting 5k USD per month ..and a secure job..If I leave this , I will be getting ( promised ) $65 per hr .. Comes out around $10k per month..but uncertain company...

2) He is also asking for $1200 to get my visa tranferred .. he is promising that it will be returned with my first month of salary.. Should I pay him ??

Please help me out ..I have to make a decision quick.. How should I believe this person ..

Thanks
CC

"Cardiac Carnage",

Please look carefully at the official naming policy at Javaranch & reregister yourself with a proper first & last name, with a space between them. Please adhere to official naming policy & help maintain the decorum of the forum. The naming policy can be found at http://www.javaranch.com/name.jsp

"Cardiac Carnage", The bartender's request that you change your display name to adhere to JavaRanch standards was not a suggestion. Valid display names are mandatory for participation on the Ranch. Please change your display name as instructed prior to your next post.

Be aware that accounts with invalid display names are removed.

Paying 1200 is not bad if you going to work as an hourly basis. becuase H1 transfer itself costs the same as new H1b. approx 1500-2000$. Make sure you know the consultancy well before joining. 65 per hour is very good rate, besides you have to think about Health insurance, Holidays, etc..

Thanks Visu.. How should I found out that he will indeed repay this $1200.

Have there been any such cases where they (consultants) keep the money and give you one of their lame reasons.

I think he is going to make atleadt $10 per hour on me .. Golly that's huge for just sittin idle..
