Can an entity EJB instance represent data on more than 1 database table?

Yes, an EJB can represent joins on tables, however they become somewhat more complex to represent and define where this is pursued.
However the introduction of local interfaces for EJB's has reduced the number of times this is desirable from the EJB 1.1 spec - but not eliminated the need entirely.
