Guys,

I am looking to relocate to India by the end of this year (Dec 2006).
I have 7+ yrs exp. in j2ee, mqseries5.3, websphere,tivoli access manager.
Currently am working for a large MNC bank on a contractual project in Singapore.

I am pretty much confused on the following

1)Where to start from ?

2)I like to settle in either Pune or Hyderabad. Heard lots about power issues in pune and bad roads so more biased towards hyderabad. What your take on it ?

3) What is the salary expectation for technical folks with my area of expertise in india. What is the usual salary break up offered ? I heard lots of variable components.

1. Register on Monsterindia and Naukri. You'll start to get all sorts of calls the same day. You can then filter them out as per your requirement.

2. I have been living in Pune for last 3 years. In Pune there are not a lot of good companies. Some good ones are Veritas, Amdocs, Sybase, T-systems(?), BMC (?), PSPL, TIBCO,
The city is one of the worst managed ones in terms of infrastructure. You have to finds patches of roads within potholes, bad traffic and pollution. The weather is good though for most of the year and crime rate is low, no communal tension history pretty peaceful.

Hyderabad as per feedback (I have never visited) good roads, bad weather cheaper cost of living. I think there are more good companies in Hyderabad. You can confirm and decide what you want.

3. Salary for 7 yrs exp can be anything. I reaaly mean it. It depends on your position in the company, skills, type of company. Average pay in Pune for 7 yrs could be 10 lacs. Some like Veritas may pay a lot more. I dont know anybody with 7+ yrs experience personally except my manager. But I dont know his salary

hyderabad is becoming a hub for many IT companies and we'll get to know about the current IT boom. living cost is less.
i think with this exp. the salary may range from 8-12 LPA.
pune, according to my friends words, is more or less equal to hyderabad.
and i dont know about the patch roads on the pathholes in pune.

TIBCO is a good company both salarywise and workwise. But if they have j2ee work I dont know. One of my classmates got a good offer last year. For 3 yrs exp he got 6.5 But he did not join. I think he got a better deal somewhere else.

Dear Joshi,

I do not know where you found "good" roads. I have been staying here since last 3 years. Couple of references for you. And there is no regard for traffic rules eigther. You can see people disregarding traffic signals as if they are color blind and dont differentiate between green and red.

Pune bad roads

Dear Sumit ,
I spend only 3 days in Pune , and from US first I landed in Mumbai ,then Delhi and then Pune , what you are saying is true in general ,your issues are almost in every city .
I feel good as compared to Delhi and Mumbai .

I have spent lot of time in Delhi in the last 5-6 years. I think it is the best city in India in terms of 'infrastructure'(New Delhi, NOIDA, Gurgao). I visit Mumbai evry 2 weeks on weekends. I do not have good things to say about Mumbai. I have also spent a lot of time Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Chandigarh among major cities. I have not been to any South Indian cities.

Among these Pune is the worst. It is still better than Mummbai.

I think you cannot make a judgement in 3 days. You commute daily 20-25 km in city for 3 years as I am doing and then you would come to know.

I stayed in Hyderabad, I believe Pune and Hyderabad not much difference.
Hyderabad is littlebit more superior in term of infrastructure but you will find good people in Pune.
