Does enterprise Bean reside in middle tier?

Yes you can consider an EJB to lie in the middle tier (i.e. between client (...and or web tier) and the resource/backend systems tier (dbms, messaging, legacy systems etc...)).
Keep in mind the different roles that an entity bean plays versus the role of a session bean.
You should take a look at the J2EE tutorial on the sun website (...should be able to find it with a search) and/or pick up one of the many good EJB books out there like the O'Reilly "Enterprise Java Beans" or Ed Roman's "Mastering EJB".
