hi there,
can anyone tell me what exactly is the difference between an .ear, .jar and a .war file. i have a good idea about the ,jar file but dont know what exactly is contained in a .ear file. anyone has any idea? any worth while link will also do nicely.

EAR file => enterprise archieve file
WAR file => web archieve
WAR files will contain all your Html pages,gifs,jpegs... and your servlets,jsp's etc
jar files will contain your application client if you have one or your EJB's
so when you are deploying your whole application bundle your war and jar files into ear files and deploy it.

hi dharmesh,

i got what ur saying... but i was under the impression that the .war file already contains the .jar files. so whats new in the .ear file?
