hi , there was very intense discussion going on in one previous thread.i decided to start a new one instead of adding onto that.
a very simple question -- how to get a permanent job in US

what i work out is --
1.reach there through some consultant
2.apply for a green card
3.lookout for a job

what is the timeframe of the above process ??
any other way??

A very good way, I think would be to study there. Get admission into a decent university for MS. Have a couple of publications. If you have these, I do not think you'd have any problem in getting a very good job.

You may have to spend some amount in the begining, but I am sure you'll find funding soon for you graduate studies.

What do people feel?

I do not know if a 2 year Indian experience outweighs a US graduate degree in a long term.

Exp. Out weight every thing .
I have seen ppl with 2- 3 year Bachelor degrees working better and earning better then a 1 yr MS .
Its no more charm a MS until unless you are from ToP US univ. its just a old way to enter in US ,other wise technical education in India is as competitive as any other country .
fresh MS graduate gets again same or low salary then a H1 with 2 year exp .
and Dont forget having a MS degree does't make you US citizen still company has to sponser a "H1 Alien" and bear the cost .In most cases fresh MS gets lesser salary and get hired by US companies becuase they can work on OPT ,where they dont have to pay certain taxes ,but that is only for a year after that I have seen MS degree holders approaching desi consulting in same way as others ...
secondly for GreenCard also these degrees do not really help any way ,as in new PERM process specially into IT no job is defined other then research or academics oriented that need a Masters degree or higher .
you can check education requirement for IT jobs on DOL web site .
so advantage of immigration process also ruled out .

Secondly if guy is not really good he has to take loan or spend money from pocket ( i wonder why a good desi guy come to US ? for non top Univ??if he is really academically good).

More over once you are search job from collage ,its a mass of fresh graduate who are US citizen and Aliens ,companies take in account why to hire a Alien over a US citizen when both have no exp. and bear uncessary cost and risk of immigration .
I have seen in most cases you can get direct job easily if you have verifiable exp. with leading corporations or Many times comapnies hire H1 contractors as permanent employees .most practical and feasible path ...
Best of luck

Well...they do have special h1B quotas...so it's not totally ruled out, atleast not right away. Who knows about future.

Thats true last year US govt gave 20,000 H1 b quota for MS graduates ,because they want US education industry to earn otherwise taht is going to suffer ,again who are using most part of that quota ??? Desi consultings ...and that also is not finished last year , i am not sure about this year .Personally I know 3 candidates who recently applied for H1 from desi consultings by spending some $$$ ...

Well if you have 65000 H1 B for all degrees , Do you think 65000 is lesser and outweight 20000 ??? Because both are open for all Nationalities and profession nothing specific .

You don't need to be thru consultant to understand these issues ,daily at work place I listen stories of vendors and their consultants .Read information of US govt websites and thats sufficent to understand .

Thats the right choice baby !
Depends if you have skills ,good communication skills and 1- 2 year US work exp. Its not a big thing some body will hire you as employee.instead of waiting for direct US employement in India .that makes your probablity 90% less if you are not from leading univ. like IIT 's.

Hey David ,
Desi Consultant is also part of US HR ...
Most of Desi Consulting are owned and run by American Citizens or GC holders only .
