Well, I want to move to a more mgmt level role either vertically or horizontally for e.g. enterprise arch. level. I'm not getting that kind of an opportunity here. Most of the Singapore market is driven by body shoppers OR Contractual jobs. They have ruled over the years and continue to. By coming here as a 'techie'...According to me, is a short term gain you make. Because, you are only involved into coding as a developer or a senior developer reporting to either a caucasian or chinese boss more then usually
Also...There is a difference betn software engineering and just a good a mechanic ! Unless you get into large Financial institutions like Banks, Insurance co etc, Its not worth it.
I dont like to preach, but just being technically strong is really not enough. EOD you need to analyse processes and manage situations on short and long term basis on your own.
I also found Singapore boring
..after sometime say about 5-6 months not much to do then just go to a mall and travel by the MRT. Not much or outdoor activities as well. I've been to other countries also. I'd prefer US, Europe etc from a weather, people, interaction standpoint. Defintely more activities to do. I still cannot afford a car in singapore, its darn expensive. Actually besides the tax, everything else is expensive.
I hope to make India my base and get deputed elsewhere in other countries through a CMM level co. then being full time here.
By the way, these are just my views and not to be taken generally.
