here is a description of the policy, along with a little bit of the "why". We want people to use real names because we're real
Java professionals, and we want to recognize the other people we talk to as real Java professionals too. Someone with a silly or obviously fake display name doesn't seem very professional -- they seem like they're trying to hide or something. We want everyone here to get the respect they deserve, so we ask them to treat themselves with respect by putting their best foot forward in this way.
