All,
I am from c++ background and considerably new to Java development. I have a very basic question in J2ee. I wrote a java application. I want to distribute my java application to my friend who doesn't have a java runtime running in his machine. I want to pack this application as a bundle (with install shield). I dont want him to install a JRE seperately. What all the things that i should supply with my application. I trust i dont need to supply JDK along with.
Kindly suggest.

Hi,
All you need to include in your installation routine is the jre download file ( currently called "j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586-i.exe" ) which you can download fron the Sun site. Remember that the PATH needs to be changed so a restart will be needed( thank you Bill Gates :-) ) during your installation process.
You have Sun's permission to include the JRE for that purpose - see quote from licence agreeement below :
Sun grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited license to reproduce and distribute the Software, provided that (i) you distribute the Software complete and unmodified (unless otherwise specified in the applicable README file) and only bundled as part of, and for the sole purpose of running, your Programs

Hope that helps,
Terry
