I would tell that i m bored till death in my current job.
but actually I would say that I think there are plenty of good oppurtunity in the market and I have developed skills that are currently underutilized in the current company. Hence I ll need to change for expanding my horizon.

Tell them honestly why yuo are leaving. That should be good enough. Nobody would leave unless there is genuine reason.

A clever interviewer would come to know if you are lying.

you are right sumit....but you know very unfortunately people nowadays dont give the rewards/respect to the honesty.....if you say, i am leaving for some reason "X"....they some people are there they will screw up and finally come to some other conclusion.......believe me, this happens in our society.

there are several instances where honest people do not survive......

do you watch moovies ? (some)movies are the reflection of our socities ...

have you seen , how an honest police officer gets screwed up by their superiors ?....this is the reward of honesty man!!....they dont survive.

BTW, anyway,....but still we should have some principle to follow up.

I would take that oppurtunity and ask them abt their projects ongoing in the company, rest assured I ll tell them that how much interest it will be to work for them.

One more thing about frankness, I told the that i was looking for financial growth in Sonata Interview in the HR round and then i got rejected .

One more thing. Every body knows that you ll be lying and you are changing for either one of 2 reasons.
a) For financial growth for money savvy people
b) For Technological growth for tech savvy people
c) For new work atmosphere for people who are very much bored off their current job.
so tell anything u like depends upon which type of person you are.

regards,

I agree with Sumit. Only thing you need to put your words in a polish way so that the HR do not invlidate your reasons.

Not all times truth works.

But its better to tell them that you want to improve your skills in a very good company and which is the one you are talking to. Also at last add that it is also for financial gain.

But the trick is to say it in a way that would be hard for the HR to frame a new question using that.

If you're not leaving for a good reason why leave?

My first job I left because I was asked by a company to come to them for a 35% increase in pay to do more interesting work.
The second I left because the company went bankrupt.
The third I left because my contract expired and I didn't feel confident enough about their future to renew it (they went out of business half a year later).
The fourth I left because they basically scrapped my job and put me in a position where the work I had to do didn't interest me at all and I felt it was a very poor career move to NOT leave them.

Let me get this straight, you want to work for a company where lying is better rewarded than honesty? Well, there's the answer when you're asked that question while leaving this new job.

As a child your parents probably said at one time or another (at least the often do in the US), "if those kids are mean to you, you probably don't want them as friends anyway." The same logic applies. If that company doesn't value honesty and your honest answers, you probably don't want to work for them anyway.

This is not to say you shouldn't word your response carefully, but you should be upfront. For example, let's suppose you're surrounded by idiots at your present job. Don't say, "all my coworkers are stupid." That makes you look arrogant. Instead say something like "I want to find an environment with intellectually stimulating people who will challenge me and will help me continue to learn in my career." Same idea, expressed much more positively and diplomatically.

I completely agree to the 'HONESTY' approach. However, here in India [dont know if it is elsewhere too]there are folks who change job almost every quarter. I think no employer can bank upon such people, no matter how much 'HONEST' they are during the interview. For others, there should not be a problem if he/she gives the honest reason for change during the interview.

Remember, the primary reason you are hired is NOT because you are talented but because there is a requirement. Once the requirement goes, the employers won't mind handing you the pink slip even if you worked there for several years efficiently.

Never ever had to even think on those lines for the 5 yrs I have been in IT, but I think the only reason I see myself leaving the present company is if the company I am working for failed to keep me in.

For me resigning from my job would be the failure of the company to keep me interested, so any justification from my end is not something which I would ever give...

so I think the typical conv between me and HR maybe on the lines...

HR: why do you want to leave your company ?
ME: coz, the company did not do enuf to keep me in
HR: Ya right, the door is to your right.
