Hi folks,
===ADDENDUM====
I have modified the orb.properties file located in the j2sdkee1.3.1\config directory to start up using a different port (I changed it from 1050 to 1051) and it works now. I still don't know what is making 1050 freeze up now but we'll chalk it up to user ignorance.
I now have a new question, are there any gotcha's as for selecting a new port#?
=============
I have read the 3 message threads that deal with this problem and none of them are helping me out. The peculiar thing is that this was working fine yesterday and I haven't changed anything I am aware of (famous last words). I am running on Win2000 Pro. Here is my error message after inputting: j2ee -verbose
J2EE server listen port: 1050
java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not initialize j2ee server. Possible cause could be another instance of the server already running.

J2EE server reported the following error: Could not initialize j2ee server. Possible cause could be another instance of the server already running.
Error executing J2EE server ...
Here's what I have already done:
1. j2ee -stop
2. Reboot my PC
3. Tried to run j2ee -verbose before I started up any other programs.
4. I have my JAVA_HOME, J2EE_HOME, and ANT_HOME environment variables set to the appropriate location. I have the PATH modified to include the bin directories of j2ee, j2se, and ant.
5. Tried running netstat -n and here are my results (port 1050 seems ok):
Active Connections

Can ANYONE please help me out? I am really stumped! :roll:
Many thanks for any help!
Janet
