CMP Entity Bean -> Encrypted Column Type ?  RSS feed

I recently realized that our password strings are being stored in our mySQL database in unencrypted form. I know that mySQL provides the ability to encode passwords. Does anyone know how to convert a CMP bean so that our String field maps to an encrypted column type instead of the default String type (VARCHAR)?
Note: I would like to avoid writing JDBC code to directly access the column! Transparency == Good.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
