All,
I'm just putting some feelers out for some opinions on what is/isn't the best application server on the market based on personal experiences (from configuration to performance). I'm coming out of a JBoss 2.4 shop -- we're currently moving to 3.0 and though I appreciate the flexibility JBoss 3.0 buys us on many levels -- I think they took a step backwards re: conciseness/cleanliness of their original product in the name of flexibility. I mean -- configuring the thing -- well, some of it certainly feels like it's nearly a hack.
That said (and I'm not saying it's not slick, the fact that I can just pop services in and out is pretty darn cool), I'm wondering if anyone out there is using anything BUT WebSphere and WebLogic (and JBoss) and what their experiences have been. Is there someone lurking on the horizon? Are there names floating around in the grand halls of J2EE Application Server Development that we're getting ready to be exposed to?

Are you trying to start a religious war!!
If you look down in the products section of these forums you will find forums for
WebLogic
WebShere
JBoss
Orion
Resin
Oracle/OAS
But beware - Kyle Brown is lurking around, and since he works for IBM . . . well . . . .

Well, I tried to hedge the prospects of a religious war -- and new it was a volatile topic -- but I'd like people to approach the topic not from a stance of what they know, but instead, what they've researched/what experiences they've had/and what came out on top.
A kid that's only worked on Weblogic touting Weblogic as the best app server ever is not what I'm after .
And certainly Kyle, if you would like to extol the virtues of WebSphere, please do so.
