The url, user and password gets passed to this method to obtain a context to a remote weblogic machine. I find that it works irrespective of whether i provide the user ,password( i passed in the "system" and password i provided in the startWeblogic.cmd file) or not.
When does it actually need the user id and password? If i do a lookup using the remote context it works.
But there might be cases where it might throw exceptions ( probably security exceptions) in case i dont provide the user/password.

thanks.

if you dont pass a valid user/password you will get logged in with a guest account.
see in weblogic admin console for the ACL which users exist (you can also set passwords there).

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
