All:
- Can someone explain what a .ear file is?
1. Is it only for use with EJBs?
2. Does it have a particular file structure (like the war directory structure)?
3. Can you post some URLs that explain this .ear concept better?
Thanks,

An ear is an Enterprise Application Archive. You are right in thinking that it is similar to a war.
An Enterprise Application contains EJB and Web Modules (as well as standard jars) that are part of a J2EE application.
The directory stucture look like:
- any ejb jar files
- any war files
- META-INF directory
In the META-INF is a file named application.xml. The application.xml file is the deployment descriptor for the ear. It is similar to the web.xml for war file or the ejb-jar.xml for ejbs.

Chris:
Thanks for the info.
All:

Does anyone know of any links or online tutorials that explain the concept of ear files?
I am looking through my O'Reilly EJB/JSP/Servlet texts and only see an extremely brief mention of ear files.
We are migrating over to WSADv5.0 and of course when I try to create/duplicate any samle JSP/Servlet code, I am told that either I or WSAD needs to create an ear file.
---------
Again, if anyone can provide links to examples or tutorials, I'd appreciate it.
