Hi,
Im wondering when one uses a persistency layer within an application..when should i rely on the DB as persistenty provider and when should I introduce a additional persistency layer in my application (like entity beans, JDO, hibernate etc). Which requirements (functional and non-functional) beg for the use of a persistency framework?
Regards
Wouter

It's all about abstractions. Using a persistence framework buys you independence of the ugly relational model that doesn't suit your OO code too well and the actual database product/version.
