post topic button is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy to far away from the actual threads.

think how many nanoseconds you could save us all if you put the Post Topic button near the actual threads.

it could be a life changing event.

Thanks!

Like the QWERTY keyboard, our website has been carefully laid out to prevent you from making multiple posts too quickly. Otherwise the letters get stuck together and we have to bring in a repairman, which is very inconvenient.

In my thoughts I think the POST NEW TOPIC and POST REPLY buttons should be on the top instead on the bottom. New comers might be searching it here and there like me, I guess

When I wanted to create a new thread for the first time in this forum I was left helpless in searching the POST NEW TOPIC button since I was used to having it at the top in other forums I has visited

Or, hey - we could put those buttons at the top and bottom. That would be cool.

I wouldn't want a "post reply" at the top - people should first read the already available responses before responding themselfes - and when they have done that, they are naturally already at the bottom, not at the top...

From what i can see, those buttons are already there at the top as well as at the bottom of the page

I know it's at the top, but it's too far up. The bottom button is just below the last post, but the TOP POST button is in the top right hand of the web page. Why not put it closer to the top most post, or even to the right wehere the previous< >next buttons are?

The site is bloody slow as well. It gets faster when I don't visit it. lol that's not a permanent solution though.

And, I'm not a JSP guy or anything, but why does the site have *.cgi suffixes, and not .jsp? Does that .cgi (ht_tp://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi) indicate perl is being used? Again, go gentle on this one, I just want to know if the creators used java technologies for this site, or not.

Some Java technologies exist behind the forums (witness the excellent search capabilities created using Lucene, the FAQs that use Friki and the staff blogs backed by Pebble). Have a read of this for the reasons behind the technology choices and thoughts about changing them.

On that link the last line says: "This is a great community -- don't let us mindlessly risk it by trying to apply overhasty "improvements"."

For what it's worth, I agree it's not slow enough to cause disruption and unneeded headaches trying to transition the forum to better technology. :-)
You ought to ventilate your mind and let the cobwebs out of it. Use this cup to catch the tiny ads:
