Hi,
Im planning to build a typical web database software application. Im a client-server programmer and I want to learn some web technology development building one.
Ive two i386 PCs, one of them RED HAT linux 9 installed on it. I would like to know which app server would you recommend, database, ..
Im a newbie about all this stuff, any comments or info source will be very appreciated.
I know Oracle databases, some Java language, VB, SQL Server.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest using MySQL as the database. The reasons would be that it's a) free, b) light-weight, c) very common meaning lots of community support is available, and d) it's available for both Windows and Linux platforms.
For the "application server", I would recommend either Tomcat (a web container) or JBoss (an application server) for pretty much the same reasons.
