I have been using beans for some time and would like to get into the EJBs. My question is this, is the tomcat-apache setup going to work with EJB? If so, what is it that makes it an EJB and not just regular beans? Thanks for your help.

Tomcat does not support EJBs because it is just a web container and not an EJB container. You can use JBOSS, Suns Reference implementation, weblogic, oracle 9ias, websphere for running EJBs.
The difference between EJB and simple Java beans has been answered before, so you can just search the forum for answers.
