I would suggest that you do a self study rather than going for training.

I would've answered the same. The reasons being that
1) Commercial courses are just that -- commercial
2) Commercial courses suffer from the lowest common denominator problem
3) You'll get a huge amount of information by spending some of the course price into books about J2EE.
In short, you learn more from books and the Internet than from attending an expensive day-care for a week...
