Hi,
Problem statement:
----------------------
We need to establish secure communication between EJB and COM components. ONe side there is a client VB application and on the other side we have Websphere Broker Servlet or MQ broker servlet.
Authorization needs to happen before any user can have access to the broker servlet. This broker servlet will be responsible for re-routing the requests to different servers which reside on diverse platforms.
Constraints:
----------------
Security via digital certificates cannot be implemented since the clients are not mature and ready for this.

Googling resulted in a number of bridges that exist between COM and EJB components. Since i have not worked on this, so i will not be able to make the right decision regarding the direction to go inorder to establish a secure synchronous communiation between the VB application and the EJB component.
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
Madhav

My strong recommendation would be to use Web Services.

Hi Kyle,
Not using WebServices is yet another contraint. The organization is not ready for adopting WebServices.
If there is any other solution then let me know.

How about just using MQ Series then?

What about a product like Jintegra, which is a Com to Java bridge. I also believe that Sun also has a Java to Com bridge.

1. Using MQ has security issues. We thought of using PKI for MQ but anything that has digital certificates involved is ruled out.
2. Clients have recently purchased Websphere but they are not fully equiped to handle all the functionality it provides.
3. Jintegra is one of the options already in our minds. The only problem is that this involves a purchase of yet another product. So unless we justify its existance in the company nobody is going to approve it.
The whole point it that we have to have secure and reliable communication using the existing infrastructure.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
