Hi Friends,

I have currently 5.5 years of experience and my salary is 9 lacs per annum.
I am not too sure if this is the right forum to ask but my experience is in C++ not java.
How much should i get based on this experience. My company recognises me well for my efforts and gives me awards but not sure if it pays me well too.
Any help friends?

Well Not be sure but, if you are working in Driver Development area or Netwrok Security Domain.. then you may get some more around 11+ LPA.

As I told already this is my personnal opinion what I have heard from some of my friends who are working in these domains in C++ Technology. They are getting such amount of money... That's why I have this opinion.

Sorry if anybody hearted by my opinions

It's a good pay in the current market. It is also according to the standard benchmark set by the gaints like Oracle, IBM, HP, etc. Probably, the startups may pay more than 9.0LPA for 5.5 years exp., but do not consider them for benchmarking. Most of the startups pay high when they try to establish in the market and suddenly they may decrease the salary as times go by. So don't worry about the salary you are getting right now. If you take companies like TCS, Infosys, etc., their pay scales are much lesser. So what you are getting is very good.

Thanks guys for your replies.
However, I saw somewhere in our JavaRanch threads that there is some formula for salary according to which my pay should be : -
(number of years of experience)* 2 + (some variable component)

Isn't this correct? Am I not underpaid by that definition?
Because of my good performance I have been recently promoted to Team Lead but my salary hasn't been increased. I am getting the same salary I used to get as Senior Software Engineer.
Only the work has increased not compensation.

What is the market valuation for this experience and team lead role?

By the way I am working for a product development company not for a services company.

I am not too sure about that formula buddy.
However, I do sense that you are doing well in your company.
I guess as long as you are learning, there is no need to worry. Earning can be increased once learning is good.

Adam what made you to feel that your under paid? Yes you are underpaid when compare to people with 2 years experience and getting 10 lackhs per annum and you are over piad when compare to people with 5 years experience and getting 6 lackhs per annum. It is all upto you how drive the situation.

And you need to consider other personal interests like what motivates you: money or company recognization? If you change company you may get higher salary what you are getting now but that may not give you satisfaction. Just stop thinking much about money and think in other angles. But make sure that you are comfortable with your salary or not.

Good luck
