Can we open sockets from a EJB

Hi All,
Does the EJB Specification allow to open sockets in EJB code. We have a stateless session bean which has a helper class which invokes a postmethod using HttpClient. HttpCLient does create sockets. Please help.

It allows creation of socket but I don't know wether it is a good idea or not because EJBs are not meant for network programming but for transaction management

The EJB specification does not allow you to open a server socket, but you can open a client socket..
