Hi,

I have been itching to ask a question, why javaranch is designed using cgi scripts ( probably uses perl in the back-ground)

When all JSP/Servlet books (Including HeadFirst)are straining a lot to explain the advantage of Java over perl-cgi.

We do use Java for various parts of the site, though. See the 4th item here.

Hi,

I should have searched the sites before asking about CGI scripts sorry for the trouble .

Thanks a lot for taking time to answer me.

I happen to browse about the site, I saw the profile of some of java ranch staffs well .....

I certainly accept & respect that people's time is really very valuable.

As an aside, seeing "cgi-bin" in an URL does not indicate anything about the underlying technology. If we do switch to a Java-based system, we might well keep the current URLs, in order not to break links. Servlet mapping makes this easy.

This was discussed a bit in this thread, which was about why there seem to be a lot of ".php" and ".asp" URLs out there, but not many ".jsp" ones.

I'd be willing to place a large sum of money on the fact that JSF will never power JavaRanch.

Anderson gave himself the promotion. So I gave myself this tiny ad:
